Title: Drilling in Delaware – Securing Title in Texas
SYNOPSIS: Recent trends in the Delaware, broader Permian, and Eagle Ford present new curative needs and demand understanding of drilling obligations. This presentation unpacks the top curative and strategic points that the landman needs to know for success in Western Texas. While Texas stands as the “majority” legal standard across the producing states, comparisons will guide the attendee to distinguish nuances from familiar work in the Rocky Mountain states.
BIO: Michael T. Jewell is a Director and Shareholder at the law firm of Burns, Figa & Will, P.C. in Greenwood Village, Colorado where he serves as the Head of the Oil, Gas, and Minerals practice group. Michael frequently speaks to local, national, and international audiences on issues affecting mineral development, and he is a past Chair of the Natural Resources and Energy Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association. In addition to his practice in natural resources law, Michael serves as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where he teaches courses in public health law and researches the efficacy of public health interventions by mineral operators.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Louisiana College in 2001, and also studied at the University of London. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2007, after also completing a Master of Public Health (International Health Systems Management) degree from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 2002.
