Code of Conduct

The Denver Association of Professional Landmen (The “DAPL”)  is concerned about the use of date-rape drugs at DAPL events.  There has been a substantial rise in the significant crime of “drugging” individuals with the intent of assaulting an unconscious and/or incapacitated person.

Effective immediately, DAPL will provide “test kits” and drink lids at all DAPL-sponsored events involving alcohol, in an attempt to help minimize the possibility of being unlawfully drugged.  Further, DAPL is reaching out to victim-assistance organizations to obtain guidance and educational material, which will be made available on the DAPL website in addition to upcoming  social events involving alcohol.  These resources will provide guidance on: warning signs, safety measures to be taken to help prevent such an assault and options for dealing with being the victim of an unlawful drugging, among other things.

The following outlines DAPL’s stance on this social and criminal issue:

  • DAPL condemns the use of date-rape drugs at DAPL events.

  • DAPL considers the unlawful possession of any drug to be a criminal matter.

  • DAPL considers the assault of another person (including drugging) to be a criminal matter.

  • DAPL encourages members to watch out for one another and report any concerns around “drugging” at a DAPL event to the President of the Association ([email protected])

  • DAPL encourages anyone who believes they are the victim of any assault to seek medical attention upon awareness of an assault (even if awareness does not occur immediately after the assault, but days later). DAPL will aid any member in acquiring medical attention.

  • DAPL encourages anyone who believes they are the victim of any crime to report any such criminal activity upon awareness of the crime (even if awareness does not occur immediately after the crime, but days later); not only for the sake of the victim and to punish the offender, but also to help prevent any such crime from happening to others. DAPL will aid any member in reporting criminal activity.

Having stated the above encouragement to treat this matter as the serious criminal offense it is, DAPL realizes there may be justifiable reasons why one would prefer not to contact the police but would still want to have the matter addressed as an ethical issue by DAPL.

For reference and as a reminder, here are some, but not necessarily all, of the applicable provisions within the DAPL Bylaws concerning ethics for DAPL members.
